Sports Facilities Case Studies
Dallas Cowboys - The Star
ACTION PLAN
AtmosAir installed bi-polar ionization technology on a trial basis in the locker room area, and after successful testing, throughout the entire training facility. Dallas wanted a reduction in airborne allergens and dangerous bacteria such as Staph and MRSA.
RESULTS
Trainers, staff and players — unaware of the AtmosAir system installation — commented on improved air quality. Trainers distributed fewer medicines for hay fever and allergy symptoms. No MRSA or H1N1 Flu has been reported since system installation. In addition, energy savings from AtmosAir’s bi-polar ionization technology were enough to recover system installation cost.
Since the initial trial, Dallas installed AtmosAir throughout the entire 100,000-square-foot training facility, including coaches’ offices, rehab areas, meeting rooms and administrative areas. AtmosAir will also be installed in the newly designed Dallas Training Center in Frisco, Texas, slated to open in 2016.

Staples Center
AEG Facilities has set aggressive missions regarding energy efficiency and sustainability. AtmosAir and independent laboratory EMSL tested the air quality in Staples Center’s Lexus Club, a private dining room located inside the Staples Center. AEG/Staples Center engineering wanted a baseline measurement of contaminant levels with the air handling and filter systems operating as installed, and later with AtmosAir bi-polar ionization systems working in the same airspace, using reduced outside air.

After a successful test in the Lexus Club, the Staples Center engineering team wanted to determine if AtmosAir systems generated an electrical energy savings when installed in a large arena.

TESTING
The AEG Facilities engineering team ran a fluke power monitor connected to air handler #6 in a “before and after” test. Weather conditions were identical.
The “before” test was a 48-hour test with AtmosAir air purification systems installed and operating. AEG locked the outside dampers and left only pre-filters installed.
The “after” test was a 48-hour test beginning immediately after the AtmosAir air purification “before” test. Bag and pre-filters were installed and the outside air dampers were returned to normal, automatic operation.

RESULTS
Air quality, especially gaseous elements, VOCs and TVOC, improved significantly from baseline measurements to measurements taken with AtmosAir systems installed and outside air reduced.
• Energy Savings: 21%
• PM10 Reduction: 25%
• VOCs Reduction: 90%
• Test results for AHU-6 equated to a savings of roughly 127 kWh or about $16.51 every 48 hours.
AtmosAir is currently installed in the entire arena.
Third party testing performed by EMSL Laboratories.
